Popular YouTuber: whale meat has a unique taste

The “Best Ever Food Review Show”, which has almost 10 million subscribers, recently visited the Faroes.

The first episode, in which host Sonny Side goes hunting for shellfish, has been viewed more than 2 million times.

His second episode, which focuses on whale meat, or as Sonny labels it: “the most controversial food in Europe”, has garnered twice as many views.

Sonny visits Súsanna and Eyðun in the village of Kvívík. While eating fresh and dried whale meat (which he describes as "a block of protein"), whale steaks and blubber, he learns about the Faroese whaling tradition.

"It’s like nothing I’ve ever tasted before, but as far as dried meats go, it tastes excellent,” he says.

“I’m starting to understand why Faroese people don’t want to part with this unique delicacy.”

The result of the visit is a fascinating and balanced description of the Faroese concept of “grind”.
